Head and neck cancer symbolic burgundy i

A  laryngectomy is a procedure in which all or  a portion of the larynx (voice box) is surgically removed usually due to head and neck cancer. Patients have a variety of options for communication including an electrolarynx, a voice prosthesis, esophageal speech or communication apps.

Patients may also present with swallowing deficits (dysphagia) as a result of a laryngectomy. Speech therapy can help with the transition to communication options and provide assistance with dysphagia.
